Bouncing back from burglary – water first

It was a shock to me and to those who visited our house in Domlur when the burglary wad discovered. What was more shocking and utterly made no sense was the fact that the house was vandalized and looked very intentional that whosoever burgled the house had other intentions of making the house not livable.

However, what these burglars did not expect was my resilience to such a heinous crime. I was prepared to accept the fact that I have to start from scratch and I have to start my life all over again and for others too, especially my mother. I got the support that I very much-needed to bounce back and I have to thank my wife for that. She was able to put the house back in such a way that the repairs to the house can begin without fail.

I had asked my brother to help me out when I arrive at Domlur. However, I was not sure where to begin. My good friend came to my help with first things first approach. Get the house secured as advised the police. This was done with such a speed, I was pleasantly surprised by the professional approach that the security firm took to lend that timely help.

Once I entered the house, I started to think from the very basic must have need to live there. There is no way the water can come into the house as every single tap was broken. What about the water going out. No toilets can be flushed if used. So the water must be able flow in and flow out and it must be clean coming in.

Got hold of a plumber to start the work from outside and started sorting out things and cleaning out things from inside. The well that has dried out and not used came in very handy to throw things that become an organic waste. We were wearing masks to stop breathing an one-inch dust and getting the house cleaned room by room.

We got hold of a cleaning agency to clean the sump and the overhead tanks. God hold of an electrician to make the sump pump work. Got the plumber to fix the tap inside. Wala! the water was flowing in!

We had to wait almost a week to ensure the outside plumbing was completed to let the water flow out. For the first time in four weeks after my arrival, we flushed the toilet tanks and opened the taps.

The next stage had to be tidying things out to get the house prepared for civil and painting work.
